Heavy to very heavy rain forecast for South Bengal; 7 districts on red alert
A powerful explosion ripped through an abandoned mud house in Rajoa village, Uttarpara area, under Katwa subdivision of East Burdwan district on Friday night, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured. The blast, which occurred around 9:15 pm, was so intense that it caused the entire mud house to collapse, triggering panic among local residents.
Upon hearing the loud explosion, villagers rushed out of their homes to find flames rising from the abandoned structure and the house completely flattened. They immediately alerted the police. Personnel from Katwa police station quickly arrived at the scene, where they pulled out an injured individual from the debris. This person was immediately admitted to Katwa subdivision hospital for treatment. Shortly after, the body of another person was recovered from the same debris.
Preliminary investigations by the police strongly suggest that the explosion occurred while crude bombs were being manufactured inside the house. Villagers have alleged that the abandoned house had become a clandestine base for illegal bomb-making activities. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, and a forensic team is expected to examine the blast site to gather further evidence. The incident has cast a shadow of fear over the quiet Rajoa village, raising concerns about the prevalence of such illicit activities in the area.
